Most companies are skilled at measuring their work outputs—production efficiencies, client or customer satisfaction, profit margins, cost of goods, units sold, etc. KPIs are carefully listed, mapped, reported and examined. But all of these measurements are looking backward at what has already happened.
What employees at all levels know, what they believe, and how they feel about it—in short, your company’s DNA—are some of the clearest predictors of what these KPIs will eventually reveal. Beyond common employee satisfaction surveys or prepackaged executive assessment tools, few companies have much objective, data-driven insight as to what management and employees of the company know, what they believe and how they feel about it.
Managing employees through constant change, communicating with razor sharp effectiveness and ensuring employees are aligned with both the specific business objectives and the strategies designed to deliver them, requires soft skills that are hard to spot in interviews and are beyond deep subject matter expertise.
